Frequently Asked Questions about using myritmo
– answered by us for you

Yes, you can use the ritmo: The ritmo can be used with the insulin pump without any problems, provided that all devices involved are used for their intended purpose.

No, you can continue working as usual and use your electronic devices. When using wireless phones (e.g. mobile phone/smartphone/tablet PC/DECT phone/walkie-talkie), maintain a minimum distance of 30 centimeters from the ritmo. Do not place devices on top of the ritmo. This also applies to other electrically powered devices (e.g. hairdryer, shaver, computer, Wi-Fi, etc.).
Please avoid intense physical activity such as jogging, sports in general, or strenuous physical work. This helps improve signal quality (e.g. by preventing jolts and shocks) and prevents the ritmo from detaching due to excessive sweating.
Do not enter the sauna with the device. Sweating reduces the adhesive strength of the electrode patches, which may cause the ritmo to detach. Also, the long-term recording should reflect your regular daily routine. Intense exertion such as sauna use should be avoided. If an electrode detaches, please use the spare electrode provided and apply it to clean, dry skin.
Yes, you may use your mobile phone. However, maintain a distance of at least 30 centimeters between wireless devices and the ritmo. Do not place devices directly on it. This also applies to other electronic devices (e.g. hairdryer, shaver, computer, Wi-Fi, etc.).
If the electrode no longer sticks, please use the spare electrode included and apply it to clean, dry skin.
Yes, you can use the ritmo: It can be operated together with pacemakers or other stimulators without interference, provided all devices are used as intended.

Itching can occur in isolated cases but is not harmful. The electrodes used with the ritmo are generally skin-friendly and comply with the relevant standards (EN ISO 10993-1). Some patients may still experience allergic reactions (e.g. redness, inflammation, or itching) caused by the adhesive layer. Reactions may be more severe in patients using corticosteroids.

The electrode patch is custom-made for the ritmo and suitable for long-term ECG recordings. It meets biocompatibility standards according to ISO 10993 and is latex-free.

The electrode backing is made of latex-free polyethylene foam, and the conductive gel ensures good signal transmission. The design allows for extended recording times.

However, heavy body hair, wet or oily skin, and excessive sweating may affect adhesion. Shave or dry the area if necessary. Avoid applying cream before placing the electrode.

If the adhesive becomes weak, try pressing it back in place. If that does not help, replace the patch with the spare provided. Check for any unusual redness before reapplying. If irritation occurs, you can place the new patch on another nearby spot on the chest.

Before reapplying, clean and dry the skin thoroughly.

Although the electrodes are designed for high skin compatibility and most people experience no irritation, mild redness or itching may occur after long-term use. This usually resolves quickly once the patch is removed. If redness intensifies or itching worsens, remove the electrode immediately.

You may reapply the device with the spare electrode on another location (e.g. to the left of the previous spot). If strong skin reactions persist, remove the patch and return the device.

We will analyze your recording up to that point.

Why choose myritmo?

The ritmo recorder continuously monitors your heart rhythm – for up to twelve consecutive days, if desired. It uses three separate channels, which is why it’s referred to as a 3-channel ECG. Each channel records your heart rhythm independently. This multi-channel setup ensures a high level of accuracy and reliability in capturing all heart signals seamlessly.

Each of our three recording channels measures your heart rhythm at 200 hertz per second. Altogether, this adds up to 600 data points – every second!

Over a 72-hour ECG recording, this results in more than 155 million data points. We analyze this data rapidly using our cutting-edge software, which operates with artificial intelligence and achieves a sensitivity and specificity greater than 90%.

Despite these top-tier capabilities, our device is designed to be as compact and comfortable as possible – so you can wear it without any restrictions.

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a major risk factor for stroke. Unfortunately, diagnosing AFib is often not straightforward. Many patients do not notice this heart rhythm disorder. Additionally, AFib often occurs intermittently (paroxysmal AFib), meaning the heart rhythm is normal between episodes.

That’s why it’s important to monitor heart rhythm over an extended period of time. We recommend a 72-hour recording – and ritmo is ideal for this purpose.

With ritmo, you can be examined easily, quickly, and comfortably.

Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of heart rhythm disorder. During AFib, the heart rhythm becomes irregular. As the name suggests, AFib originates in the atria (the upper chambers of the heart). The heart consists of four chambers. Normally, small electrical signals ensure a coordinated pumping of the atria and ventricles. These signals typically originate from a point in the right atrium.

In AFib, electrical impulses are generated in other parts of the atria. These additional signals cause the atrial walls to contract uncoordinatedly. Only some of these impulses are transmitted to the ventricles, leading to an irregular heartbeat. This can result in a very rapid pulse (tachycardia).

As a result of AFib, the heart’s pumping efficiency may decrease, reducing physical performance. Because blood circulation in the atria slows, clots may form. If one of these clots travels to the brain and blocks a vessel, a stroke can occur.

Less commonly, blood flow to the arms, legs, kidneys, or intestines may be impaired.

To prevent dangerous blood clots from forming, anticoagulant medications are prescribed for AFib. These help lower the risk of stroke.

AFib is a frequently diagnosed condition. In Germany alone, around two million people are estimated to live with AFib, making it the most common persistent heart rhythm disorder. Its prevalence increases with age. As the population ages, the number of AFib cases is expected to continue rising.

Unfortunately, AFib can have serious consequences, including reduced cardiac output. The most serious complication is stroke. Current estimates suggest that around 70,000 strokes in Germany each year are due to AFib.

Heart health is important, and regular screening is key. If no abnormalities are found, you’re not in a high-risk group, and you have no symptoms, we recommend repeating the test every two to three years. If you have risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history, yearly tests – or even twice per year – may be appropriate.
More and more insurers are reimbursing the myritmo screening. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to check if they cover this valuable preventive service.

Many fitness devices and apps can give early warnings about heart health. However, most are not certified medical devices. They may hint at possible arrhythmias but cannot provide a medical diagnosis or treatment guidance.

In contrast, the heart screening with ritmo is a certified medical process, capable of detecting AFib with documented accuracy. The results are reviewed by a cardiologist. If a condition like AFib is found, you’ll receive a detailed report to share with your physician – no need to repeat the test. That saves valuable time.

The compact ritmo is a full-featured 3-channel ECG, cable-free and even shower-safe. It offers a fast and convenient way to check for AFib – one of the leading causes of stroke. AFib is responsible for roughly 20% of strokes, yet many people are unaware they have it. The sooner AFib is diagnosed, the better it can be managed.

If you have a pacemaker, the test is not suitable for diagnosing atrial fibrillation. Therefore, we do not recommend using ritmo for this purpose.
ritmo is a Class IIa medical device under MDD (Medical Device Directive). Manufacturer information is printed on the back of the device.

Using myritmo correctly

Yes, you can use ritmo: It works without interference alongside an insulin pump, provided all devices are used according to their intended purpose.
No, you can continue working and using your electronic devices as usual. Keep wireless devices (e.g., mobile phones, tablets, DECT phones, radios) at least 30 cm away from ritmo. Do not place them directly on the device. This applies to other electric devices too (e.g., hairdryers, razors, computers, Wi-Fi, etc.).
Please avoid intense physical activity such as jogging or strenuous work. This improves signal quality (e.g., by reducing jolts) and prevents the electrode patch from loosening due to heavy sweating.
Yes, you can sleep in any position except on your stomach. If the electrode patch does come loose, clean and dry your skin, and reapply the device using the spare electrode patch provided.
No, avoid using ritmo in the sauna. Heavy sweating may reduce the adhesive strength of the patch. Also, the recording should take place under typical daily conditions. If the patch comes loose, clean the skin and reapply the spare electrode.
Sweating does not impact the recording itself but may cause the patch to loosen. If that happens, clean and dry your skin and apply a new electrode patch.
We’ve developed a special patch for ritmo with high comfort, skin compatibility, and strong adhesion. However, sweating may cause it to loosen. If it does, replace it with the spare patch on clean, dry skin.
ritmo is showerproof, so you can maintain your hygiene routine. However, avoid long or intense showers as water may reduce patch adhesion. We recommend removing the device before showering and reattaching it afterward.
No, avoid swimming. ritmo is water-resistant but not designed for prolonged submersion.
Yes, you can make notes manually. Additionally, you can mark an event by double-tapping the ritmo device. The LED will flash, marking the moment for later analysis
Yes, but keep a 30 cm distance between ritmo and wireless devices. Don’t place them directly on the device. This also applies to other electric items.
Recording for 72 hours significantly increases the chance of detecting intermittent heart rhythm disorders.
No, the recording pauses when you remove the device and resumes when you put it back on. We can reliably evaluate recordings with interruptions. Your data is still valid.

Technical information

As long as the green LED is blinking steadily, the device is functioning correctly. If you suspect a malfunction, please call our patient hotline at 040 350 31 31 31. We’ll be happy to help.
Do not open the device or apply force. Damaged or defective devices/components must not be used and should be returned for repair.

ritmo has three LEDs indicating device status, battery status, and errors. These are required for certified medical devices in Germany:

Only if the red LED lights up continuously is there a malfunction. If the red LED is only blinking, this is not an error. It indicates that data has already been successfully recorded.

All 3 LEDs blink:

  1. After attaching the ritmo to the chest, it searches for your heartbeat. All 3 LEDs light up briefly.
  2. The ritmo performs a self-test as it comes out of standby mode. This is not an error.

  • Red LED (solid): Malfunction. The device cannot record. Remove it and return it to us. Please call us for replacement coordination: 040 350 31 31 31.
  • Red LED (blinking): Not an error. Indicates data is already being recorded.
  • All LEDs blink briefly: This happens during initialization when ritmo is attached to your chest. It performs a self-test – this is normal.
  • Green LED: Indicates a heartbeat has been detected. The device is working correctly. It blinks every 1–2 seconds.
  • Yellow LED: Battery is 50% used. This is just informational – continue wearing the device. The battery will last the full screening period. This is not an error.
Yes, the CE certification allows you to carry the device through airport security.
No, it connects via electrodes built into the custom-developed adhesive patch.
Yes, both the hardware and software are certified as a Class IIa medical device according to the Medical Device Directive (MDD).

Medical questions

Our electrode patch is specially designed for the ritmo and intended for long-term ECG recordings. It complies with ISO 10993 standards for biocompatibility and is latex-free.

The electrode carrier is a latex-free polyethylene foam, and the electrode gel is a conductive solid gel designed to enable long recording durations.

However, strong body hair, moist or oily skin, and heavy sweating can affect the adhesion of the electrodes. If necessary, shave or dry the area where the electrode will be applied. Please avoid applying lotion to the skin before placing the electrode.

If you notice that the patch is losing adhesion during the recording, first try pressing it down again. If this doesn’t help, replace it with the spare patch provided. Before applying the new patch, ensure there are no unusual skin irritations in the area. If redness is present, apply the patch to another nearby area on your chest.

Before reapplying the patch, wash and dry the skin thoroughly.

Although the electrodes were developed for maximum skin compatibility and most users do not experience significant irritation, mild redness or itching can occur after prolonged use. This is normal and typically subsides quickly after removal. If the redness intensifies or the itching worsens, remove the electrode immediately.

You can then reapply the device using the spare patch on another area (e.g., left of the original position). If strong skin reactions occur again, remove the patch immediately.

If you have very sensitive skin or a known adhesive allergy, stronger reactions may occur. This is especially true during ongoing cortisone therapy. If you notice stronger redness or itching, remove the patch immediately.

Please return the device to us. We will evaluate the data recorded up to that point.

If you experience allergic skin reactions during use, stop the ECG recording and contact us immediately via our customer service at +49 40 350 31 31 31 or write to us at service@myritmo.de.
